Fairy Cave is a piece of a rare bird. When you see Fairy Cave in first time, I was obsessed with this miraculous, misty fairytale concept. The fairy reminds me of Brian Froud’s best known fairy illustrations but with a twist of using Asia elements, beetles instead. The juxtaposition of the concept art balances a beetle archer who is innocent but dominant on her own cave covered by woods.
The shape of the beetle crown and mix of other insects create an unique and elegant world view in the concept. This is my first finished character model that I spent 3 months to finish. There are difficulties that I haven't been spotted on before and finally I overcome.
TURNTABLE REELS
PROCESS
Preplan - Character Breakdown | Orthrographic Interpretation
In the earlier stage, I was counting and assign different colors to distinguish different object in the scene so that I will know the total assets I need to create. Also, drawing the concept in different angles help me to preplan the accessories at the back of the character.
Finding Color Palatte and searching the artist's page is not everyone's workflow, but it helps me to know more about the concept. Like here, there are 2 versions of this concept.

TEXTURING
For Texturing, I was experimenting different specular affects the textures on skin pores.
That was so much fun!
Final stage~ making lookdev decision on matching the pose and art-direct the lighting was the hardest thing I have ever done looking back from now.
PROPS & ACCESSORIES
These are the textures for the accessories and props for the fairy. It includes the beetle helmet, upper armor, lower armor. arrow and the tree.
