Round of applause for our sponsors
Over the course of my university semester, I have been able to create a character in the style of Shunya Yamashita. We were also required to use the build of a mech or robot in pop culture. For my project, I chose to base my character off the Pseudo-Evolution of Shinji Ikari's EVA Unit 0-1.

This character has been fleshed out over the course of six weeks. Here is my process from concept to final design.

My first intial design was a little misguided and lost, and didn't feel authentic to the design of the EVA.

Along with the guidance of my instructors, Bryan Lee and Duncan Li, I started to gain some more confidence in my experimentations. Their constant feedback and encouragement has guided me well.

I started experimenting with value painting, in preparation for colouring and decided on the main shades I was going to use. I discovered during this week, I wanted to go for a biker/punk girl because I love the style of clothing I can apply to the design.

I was still feeling my character lacking it's full potential, so I went back to basics. I made more ambitious design choices, played around with more patterns and shapes and felt a lot more confident with my pieces.
I began to colour my design and really enjoyed this process, very therapeutic! I did like where each colour was placed, but I still felt the base design needed more. It wasn't quite complete.
I wanted to use more of the key shapes and motifs in the EVA. After the feedback I was given regarding this, I applied it and fell in love with the design all over again. I even designed a helmet alongside it! Even if I didn't include this in the final, I had so much fun.

After a tedious batch of rendering, a lot of improvements and confidence boosters later...I FINISHED THE DESIGN! I am really proud of my work and I really hope to take it further in a new project. I really hope you enjoyed viewing my work and good luck to all the entrants! <3
