1st year in motion design

Janina Camille R. Lagos
by janinalagos on 29 May 2019 for Rookie Awards 2019

I would like to show the polished 3D works that I have worked on for the past 10 months. This time last year, I didn't know that I was capable in doing things like these because I just started exploring motion design.

01 | Zeotrope

The brief was to simply make a zeotrope animation. I chose Animal Crossing as my theme because I enjoyed the game and character design. This pushed my modelling skills since I modeled everything from scratch in Cinema4D. Textures were provided by a fanmade google drive of the game.

02 | Channel Ident

The brief was to make the channel branding for our chosen channel. I chose SYFY because I found out that it recently redesigned it's brand. It's current branding is very 2D and I wanted to create a 3D version of it. The concept I came up with was alien organisms combined with blocks. The blocks were pieces of the logo with a mind of it's own. They were being contained in a spaceship wherein the power shut off and they fell into pieces. They all tried to form back into their blocks and only a few succeeded, creating the logo SYFY.

03 | Geometric Text

This video is suppose to be a visual and geometric interpretation of a chosen quote. My quote was a famous To Kill A Mocking Bird quote. “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.” I chose 2 art movements that were very similar visually which were De Stijl and Bauhaus. The concept was to experience the 2 movements in order to understand their differences and similarities.

04 | Branding

The brief was to choose a brand and create it's story in a video. We were challenged to incorporate 3D objects into the video and make them blend with the 2d animation.
