CARAMELLI Guillaume Concept Art 2023
Hi, my name is Guillaume, I'm 20 years old and I'm a French concept artist finishing my third and last year of a bachelor's degree in concept art at Bellecour Ecole. I can't wait to present my final year project ARUN which will be an open world RPG video game, I hope you'll enjoy!
I'm proud to present my Arun project, which will focus on India, Nepal and other West Asian inspirations. I'm very attached to the Asian world. This project has helped me enormously to consolidate my skills and gain confidence in my work!
Arun is a project for an open-world Rpg video game. The player takes on the role of Arun, a hero with amnesia, where he must use his mind, which gives him an arsenal of powers, to recover his memory, which is also his spiritual strength.
Years ago, a war broke out between the human world and demons. Thanks to the spirits, the real world succeeded in defeating the demons and sealing them away in an isolated world.
Since then, peace has prevailed, reinforced by the presence of the spirits and a kingdom. Each spirit is linked to a human being, forming more or less fused pairs.
Using mechanical body envelopes called animus, the spirits teach them, in exchange, the essential values of life in order to achieve pure wisdom, creating a ceremony that brings together the most fused pairs. The aim of this ceremony is to find the perfect symbiosis between a spirit and a human in order to banish the demons once and for all.
No one was able to carry out this ritual except a brother and sister, prodigies with pure hearts, who managed to pass the tests!
During the ceremony, the demons manage to free themselves from their chains and invade the world. The demon king manages to catch the brother by surprise, seizes his powers and falls into a deep coma, his mind wandering aimlessly.
The hero wakes up and the game begins.
To create Arun, I was inspired by traditional Hindu dress, with the coat slung over one shoulder. The long hair is a reminder of how much time passed during his coma.
The old merchant is a demon who broke the pact of the iblis by trying to trade with humans, in return for which her fingers were burned off and she lost her sight. In the game, players will find her wandering around in an enormous animus, completely refurbished as a walking store.
The animus is a mechanism carved from a unique metallic stone found only in a certain region of the world. It enables spirits to have a specific use for each existing animus form. Others can fly, dig or fight with humans. Each machine is inspired by the shapes of existing animals, while retaining an unusual, simple aesthetic thanks to the materials used in their construction.
The iblis Karuka is a basic demon who has become a henchman for the king of demons. But something's not right... what's with the bandages coming out of the mask, and isn't he the one wearing them?
The ibex is a mount found in the steep, rugged high mountains. Thanks to this animal, the ancient inhabitants of the high villages could move easily over the icy rock, unlike the animus.
Typography is super important for understanding where certain elements come from and which civilization.
For example, spiritual script is very supple and rounded, forming circles and sinuous curves. Demonic script, on the other hand, is shaped like the claws and spirals that are the hallmarks of iblis, while more straightforward beastly shapes and criss-crossing give an idea of the character of the characters.
The Kata'i'jida is a four-legged seraph dragon with the ability to store lightning in its tail, which acts as a lightning rod. Its discharge is released when the monster sinks its paws into the ground, sparking lightning bolts all around it. The Kata'i'jida is very agile in the air, but as soon as its wings are ripped off, it goes into a rage that stops at nothing. Lightning spurts from his wounds, giving him an aura of phantom wings that unleash everything in his path.
