My first year 3D work at Digital Arts and Entertainment
I really wanted to show off the work I did in my first year at DAE so here it is!
Hive sacrificial sword
This is a project I really want to take time and go trough it, as for it is my first hand at trying to sculpt something that is hard surfaced. I wanted to take the game that I enjoy the most and translate that into a stylized weapon design. So I took elements from the Hive in Destiny 2 and started to translate them into a sacrificial sword. I first created a 2D concept for this and then I moved on to creating sculpting it in Zbrush after I made a block out in Maya.
1940s Toaster
In this assignment we needed to get ourselves familiar with the subdivision function in Maya, for this I choose to recreate a toaster from the 1940, above you see the final result and underneath you will find a breakdown of image together with the references.
Grandma's house diorama
In this next assignment I was tasked to create a diorama, I choose to take Zaanse Schans as main inspiration because I wanted to create a love letter to my late Dutch grandparents.
For this project we needed to create a lot of props, here are 5 of them together with a break down of the bike texture and opacity map.
The blackhole sword
Ever wondered how to hold a black hole as a sword? Well I sure do and that’s how this concept started for a WoW inspired weapon assignment at DAE. In this section I am going to break down this 3D models textures and show the concept art that I created for this sword.
Stylized Pitcairn PA-18
This is a stylized version of a Pitcairn PA-18. This was a challenging assignment, I had never created a stylized object this big so I had a lot of ups and downs with it. Yet I must say for my first try trying to make something like this, I must say that I’m satisfied with it.
During my first year at DAE, I learned that I enjoy sculpting and 3D modeling. So I am going to set this forward in my second year and try to focus on this other than that I am happy with the growth I had this year. I already asked feedback from the teachers and some people from the industry and I now finally know where to start and how I can tackle my dream with their guidance.
