Hi, I'm Muskaan!

A passionate designer & animator aspiring to be a part of a community that helps tell stories through design.

Motion Design was first introduced to me through title sequences and commercials that I watched as a young child in the theater and entertainment industry. Sometimes, more than the film itself, I would leave the cinema in awe of those graphics. Design uses a technological medium to create a broad range of stylistic effects, crafting a world in which imagination can be expressed. The idea of creating those illusionary styles and making magic happen on screen is what led me to where I am today.

These are some of the works I've had the chance to work on during my time at SCAD, each an expression of my passion and dedication to the art of design.

AlphaGo - Title Sequence

Recently, a friend introduced me to the documentary AlphaGo, and watching one of the greatest go players in the world play a best-of-five game competition against a computer was so mind- blowing and truly something to behold. I found myself deeply moved and engrossed while watching the game unfold between a human and a machine. There is just something about the human resilience and the bow to never stop trying.

As I started my concept development, I brainstormed various symbolic representations to portray humanity and AI in this specific context. Some ideas that resonated with me was the blending of the monitor and the board as well as the eventual omission of the left chair, signifying that it wasn't necessary in the face of an intangible opponent. Furthermore, to pay homage to the documentary's featured player, Lee Sedol, I envisioned incorporating an element that would capture his essence: a cigarette, representing the significance of his smoke breaks during the intense games.

Overall, I wanted the environment for the sequence to be ambiguous, allowing the spotlight to shine on the objects themselves and evoke a sense of intrigue.

Don't Worry Darling - Title Sequence

Through this collage title sequence, I aimed to depict the stifling existence portrayed in the film Don't Worry Darling. I wanted to convey the trapped lifestyle shown in the film using a thoughtful blend of symbolic icons and a suffocating composition. In contrast to the bright colors showcased in the movie, I wanted this title sequence to have a monochromatic and paper-like aesthetic, adding a layer of depth and nuance to the visual narrative.

Muskaan Sethi x The Coffee Fox - Brand & Artist Concept Collaboration

For this hypothetical brand and artist collaboration assignment, I chose to introduce my ethnic and artistic identity to one of my favorite local coffee shops in Savannah: The Coffee Fox.

Using physical techniques of cyanotypes, lumen prints, stop motion, microphotography and scannography, I created beautiful and authentic designs to use for the "coffee cup sleeves." Through this, I represent the dedication to my artistry, echoing The Coffee Fox's own commitment to the artistry of creating and serving high quality coffee. This symbiotic fusion of creativity and craftsmanship serves as a testament between my artistic identity and the essence of The Coffee Fox.

Caliza - 2023 Digital Graffiti Festival, Alys Beach

Projection piece for the Caliza at the 2023 Digital Graffiti Festival at Alys Beach. In collaboration with Claire Lin and Hannah Ford.

Sound Design: Wenzhe Xiao

A 3-volume projection piece that delves into the entrapment of the mental and physical constraints of our own minds, unveiling the profound sense of entrapment and the burden of overthinking. Through a blend of live footage, expressive gestures, shadows, collage fragmentation and more, we embarked on a collective exploration of these themes.

As part of this group project, I was in charge of the creation of Vol. 2: Fragmentationwhere I combined various parts of our faces to create a facial collage that appeared after a hypnotizing kaleidoscope.

Behind-the-scenes

Thank You!

Creating this, I've had the opportunity to reflect upon and acknowledge the growth I've experienced, both as a designer and as an individual. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion and for the supportive environment where I can learn and grow everyday. Thank you for taking the time to view my portfolio and to get to know more about me as a designer. Your interest means a lot to me.
