Emily Kwon "Pandora Box" The Rookies Concept Art Contest 2023

Hello, my name is Emily Kwon. I'm an illustrator concentrating on concept art for animation and game designs. I'm currently enrolled at Savannah College of Art and Design. I'm very excited to share my passion project I did for this quarter!

"Pandora Box" is a project I did for the concept art course at SCAD. The main concept of the story is steampunk mixed with fantasy. Quinn is a young energetic man who lives in an old village. One day, he opens a treasure box that was abandoned on the ground. This caused him to summon the Spirit and gain spiritual powers from it. His story continues as he is mistakenly taken to the central city as a "thief" who has stolen the treasure box.

I started exploring some environment illustrations to give a glimpse of the world that the characters live in. I made the old village look more traditional and warm while portraying the central city busy and cold. 

There are four main characters in "Pandora Box." The protagonists, are Quinn and General; the antagonists, are the Spirit and the Sorcerer. Unlike Quinn and General, who has a warm brown color scheme, the two antagonists show vibrant and alarming colors to emphasize their villainous characteristics. 

Lastly, I did some explorations on the key frame illustration. I not only want to deliver the interactions between the characters but how the scene effectively delivers a clear understanding of the mood and the story.
