The Clone Project-18
This is the first environment I came up with and build as an environment artist. I love the story and concept of this project and how it shows how my skills have improved over the years.
The Clone Project-18
This is how it all started! This is the first environment I made as an environment artist. It started as a school assignment for Digital Arts and Entertainment in Belgium where I have been studying for the last three years. I started and finished it for the first time two years ago but later I went back and with the extra experience in school I made it even better!
The blockout
It all started with a blockout of the spaceship. While making the project the composition of the environment changed a lot but the main room with the energy core in the middle stayed mostly the same. I wanted the player to start in a smaller room and be amazed when entering the big area and seeing the spaceship in all its glory.
The story
After this I started working on one of the most important rooms that helps telling the story. The player wakes up in an abandoned spaceship and discovers it is a laboratory for cloning humans. With a few details along the way the player eventually realizes that he himself is a clone and tries to find his way out.
I slowly started to build up one of the clone labs and decided on the color scheme orange, blue and white. This process went on for all the other areas as well which gave a nice end result!
The rework
I was already very pleased with the outcome but after a few years the flaws in the level started to pop up. I opened the project again and put my focus on the lighting and the materials in the level. With not a lot of work the rooms already looked a lot more interesting and got the correct mood I wanted to go for in the beginning.
What now?
Somethings still missing are more storytelling details and some high poly models which gave me a bit of doubt to enter this project. But in the end I really like how this project shows how my skills have improved over the years and I also really enjoyed working on this!
I hope you guys like it as well!
