CHARACTER DESIGNS:
Our character designs were heavily inspired off of a cartoon called "Panty and Stocking". Their unusual proportions provided for stronger silhouette, and yet a simpler/animatable design for each character. We prioritized sharp angles and contrasting thickness with our line art to really push the bold style.

Style Guide
Due to the odd proportions of the characters, the character designers sketched up a rough character style guide to help keep drawings consistent.
LAYOUTS
For environments, we based our architecture off of UPA's lineless and geometric style. We wanted the backgrounds to not be lined so that not only is it simpler for the layout team to produce, but it won't distract the viewers from the characters in the foreground who have thicker and bolder lineart. We planned to have the colors shift as James traveled from place to place: The balcony scene being purple, the scaffolding scene being red, and the building scene to be blue.
3D Layout Plans in MAYA
To make choreography and perspective easier for us, we designed a plan for the environment in MAYA to map out movement and screenshot views of the city that may otherwise be difficult to replicate.
ANIMATIC
The animatic of Kitnapped was initially made up of stitched storyboards from all members of the team before being cut down, rearranged, and redrawn by selected storyboard artists. Sound design tests were also performed during the making of the animatic to map out timing and music cues.
MUSIC
While making the animatic for Kitnapped, we were tasked to choose a song that would play in the background of our animation. Parov Stelar's "Catgroove" was used as a filler, however we slowly realized that this song would the perfect choice to accompany our film. We reached out to the creators and publishing company and were honored to have received written permission from them to include their song for our film!
