Hi! I'm Laura, a concept artist and illustrator based in Spain. Last year I finished a master's degree in Concept Art at Voxel School. Since then I've been studying and working on my portfolio. Thanks for passing by!

First idea: Buttercup the collector

This project started with a comfort drawing I made on a sad day, a spontaneous sketch of a tiny boy carrying a huge strawberry. Nature and little things are two of my favorite themes so I combined them to create a group of characters.

Tiny kids on a huge adventure

In this story, our protagonists live peacefully in a little village in the forest.  They go to school, read books, play sports, and sometimes get in trouble. Until one day a mysterious kid shows up, covered in strange purple blisters. He suffers from a rare disease, the raspberry leprosy. Those who catch it are sentenced to exile in the deepest part of the dark forest, a place where you don't go if you enjoy staying alive.

The sick kid is looking for help but nobody in the village will assist him... Except from our cool team of brave, generous, and enthusiastic teens. They will disobey their parents and will run away to go on a dangerous adventure looking for a cure for their new friend.

Buttercup: the crazy chemist

In this skin, Buttercup has become your typical science enthusiast kid who is always playing with chemicals and burning his eyebrows with (un)expected explosions. He's rescued a little ladybug that was rejected by her peers due to a strange extra blue spot she was born with. Buttercup named her Tickles and now they are best friends.

He will join the group because he is basically crazy and has no sense of danger. All he wants is to explore, invent stuff and get Dahlia to like him. He is also the kindest boy ever and will sacrifice anything to help his friends.

Dahlia: the witch apprentice

Just your local tiny know-it-all witch apprentice who will learn the ways of humility and trust in an adventure she wasn't willing to join at first. She is too obedient to run away, but a part of her wants to prove that she is more than a good girl. However, she will learn from Buttercup that she doesn't have to prove anything to be appreciated and even loved.

Design process

Aster: she just likes sports

The rebellious kid, the one that skips class to go and jump in the mud, the girl who wants to be the fastest, the strongest, and the tallest (fun fact, she is the shortest. She doesn't find it funny).

She is always ready for adventure, and despite her wildness, she is the one who empathizes most with the sick kid. She's been always made fun of for her birthmarks and numerous freckles, so she understands how it feels to be judged based on your looks.

Sick kid: he's very sick

Poorly dressed with fabric, also known as "human garbage", this little kid is severely ill. He knows he will not be welcome anywhere, but he is tired of wandering in pain, alone and afraid.

Final lineup

Due to a lack of time, I wasn't able to finish the two other characters I had in mind at first. Without them, I feel like the team is a little bit imbalanced. I'll try to finish them in the future!
