For my latest project of 2023, I created VIRUS! He is a character concepted by Konoe-Ya (artstation) and modeled/textured by me within the span of around 5 weeks, though there were certainly some days during that time spent solely on other schoolwork. For him, I really wanted to try and hone my character art skills. I felt I had been lacking and only doing extremely stylized, "softer" characters that all wore flowy gowns and fabrics so he would be a nice ease into a change of pace.

I faced some issues with him, but nothing I couldn't overcome. These issues mainly resided in the bake/initial sculpt of him. The shapes were just not looking right. But, after some pushing, I like to think I got myself there... almost.

The pose, unfortunately, suffered because I made the silly mistake of deleting arm geometry where I would still need it in the future. But, I plan to fix that.

Overall, I'm glad I moved out of my comfort zone!

PROGRAMS USED: Zbrush, Maya, Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop, Substance Painter, Substance Stager

For my next character, I created THE MUSICIAN for my student senior game, The Lyre! He was the first real character that I made, where I focused on actually topologizing him for a rigger, and making him fit into the style of our world. He was conceptualized, modeled, and textured by me within the span of a week, but alterations were made on him throughout the quarter.

Before him, I had only ever made characters for fun in ZBrush. So I count him as my first real dive into character art!

After the Musician, I made the purple guy below him for the same game. That one is called the Guardian. He was made in one day for Global Game Jam 2023! Then, for the next few days following that, I messed around with the colors until he became purple. He was certainly a learning curve, and I plan to go back in and alter the hair texture.

PROGRAMS USED: Zbrush, Maya, Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop, Substance Painter, Unreal Engine 5

Finally, my last character is the Goddess. She is the final boss for our senior game, The Lyre, and resides in a temple in the clouds. She's supposed to represent life and death. For her, she was a bit rushed, but came out in a way that made the team happy. She was my first introduction to foliage/cards, and I found it very fun! She is concepted/modeled and textured by me, with the water on her skirt VFX by Nikhail Barnes.

She took me two weeks to complete.
