OutLaw is a concept art project that investigates the meaning of justice, and how justice itself does not always coincide with the Law.

The entirety of this project was created during a month and a half of work.

Yuma is a ghost bear-like creature evoked by a native american shaman to avenge the atrocities inflicted by the western invaders on the native people. He is big, strong and fearless.

He carries the remains of ropes around his neck, from those who tried to capture him and failed. His rage directly affects the weather and is capable to provoke thunderstorms. His skin reacts like a rock when struck by lightning, especially in the area on top of his back.

Silas Hopkins is a middle aged convict sentenced to hang from the gallows pole for killing a vendor while stealing some food for his family. He is a bit rough around the edges but is pure of heart. The sheriff frees him from jail on parole to kill a dangerous creature that haunts a canyon nearby: if he manages to take down the beast, his death sentence will be lifted; if not, he will either die trying or will return to be hung.

Yuma and Silas are both OutLaws: neither of them have a place in the modern society. One is a thief and a killer,  the other a beast, ontologically outcasted. Is it right to occupy no place within the Law?

The ropes around their necks are the same.
