Prince's 3d Animation Submission
This a summary of the best 3d characters I've made ever since I started teaching myself how to make 3d art 9 months ago...
Hi Rookies!
Here's a little tour to some of my best and favorite projects I've worked on ever since I started teaching myself how to make 3d art 9 months ago...
I like to explain my work as a mixture between the stylized and realistic look. Here is one of my recent artworks as an example.
I kept the skin of the character relatively simple by painting in the skin tone color changes and freckles while not adding skin pores. But I made sure the hair and shirt balances the piece out by making realistic particle hair and adding a fabric material for the shirt. You'll be seeing more of that in my other work.
For now here's a visual breakdown of this character below going from the final piece with materials, to it having no materials and just the topology itself.
I usually use procedural materials for my character's eyes, eyebrows, skin, and clothing to give me the flexibility whenever I need to make quick changes to the model for animation.
Here are more portraits I've worked on as an example...
Although it might seem like I only make portraits, I also do make full body characters and can prepare them for animation by retopologizing and rigging them.
I sometime go with a simplified body where the anatomy is too much on the cartoony side and doesn't have defined muscles or hands are not too detailed to have nails , as seen on the little jaded girl below.
But I still can sculpt a model with a well defined anatomy as seen on the Aang (Avatar the last air bender) model below.
Finally, here is my take on Raven (from DC's Teen Titans). I made this model with the same process I've talked about, mixing the stylized look from the eyes, skin, and anatomy with a bit of a realistic look on the hair and on the clothing.
The model is also ready for animation as it went through retopology, rigging and weight painting.
Thanks for this opportunity and I'm wishing everyone who took part in this competition the best of luck!
