Round of applause for our sponsors

Greetings~

I’m Aanvik! An Indian motion designer at Savannah College of Art and Design. A third culture kid, my work is influenced by expressions of belief and spans an array of mediums. In particular, I focus on building interactive identity systems through motion design.

To me, the future of motion graphics isn't limited by linear stories in 16:9 frames. Instead of making one pretty video, I build systems thinking to enable a spectrum of stories and infinite videos. Bring brands and ideas to life through beautiful animation that can evolve just like us!

Below is a collection of my personal work and all that I've learnt from my time at SCAD. I hope you enjoy :)

CoMotion 2023 | Into the Spotlight

CoMotion is the world's largest student-led motion graphics conference. I had the privilege to creative direct the title sequence and identity for the 14th Annual CoMotion. Our title sequence celebrates the diversity of stories and storytellers in Motion Graphics and was inspired by light and its relationship to art.

I worked on the CoMotion identity for over nine months. With my Art Director, Marly Koven, we developed a visual language and storyboarded the whole piece. 38 multidisciplinary artists were then brought on to build out websites, AR pieces, Social media posts and 40 feet tall projections.

You can find out more about the project here.

Design is Human | Brand Identity

I was tasked to design the identity for the Design is Human conference. An annual event exploring shifting trends in art and technology. Inspired by early computer art, my concept 'Everything is Human' uses algorithmically generated typography to reveal the hidden design in every facet of life.

This sizzle reel showcases some of the best parts of the brand system and the motion toolkit built to implement the identity system.

A Definite History of Dictionaries | Infographic

An infographic produced as an introduction to the complicated yet often overlooked world of lexicography. To educate audiences about the colorful history of dictionaries, I decided to make 'the dictionary' a character audiences emotionally engage with.

The imagery was rooted in visuals from different types of dictionaries — serif typefaces for older physical books and geometric typefaces for modern web-based dictionaries — while the colors and textures were inspired by archaic books and collages.

Partition Memory Project | Automated Video System

The Partition refers to the splitting of India into Muslim majority Pakistan and Hindu majority India. 20 million people were displaced. Histories and cultures were destroyed. To many, it's the most consequential moment in the subcontinent's history. Yet 75 years since, it is still difficult for many survivors and families to share their stories. For my final project at SCAD, I wanted to make it easier to tell stories from the Partition.

I built an automated system that lets users to make custom videos by simply filling out an online form. Alongside this, I designed and animated the identity system for the Project. Designed to be empathetic and highlight the people at the center of the story.

In total, we designed, animated and toolkitted a 75+ deliverables. The last of these being an explainer video that showcases the design system and explains our process!

National Women's Soccer League | Branding and Title Sequence

For years, the NWSL existed in the shadow of other men's and women's sports leagues. My brand identity tells an exciting new visual story; placing the league's stars front and center. In an industry known for masculine design, I wanted our visuals to feel bold yet welcoming. We are not competing with men’s sports. We are our own beast.

A redesigned logo and typeface are combined with tactile textures and an authentic color palette. Creating a visual system that can be expressive or functional depending on the context. I also animated a title sequence that is in line with the larger designer direction. Cut frenetically, it gives fans storylines to follow and an anthem to celebrate.

Below is a sizzle showcasing the system at work along with the title sequence.

Project Midas | Interactive Installation

Inspired by the folktale about the king ruined by his lust for gold, we built an interactive experience highlighting how our planet has changed as humans have impacted the Earth's icecaps.

Two 10 ft. tall panels and a golden pyramid were set up on opposite ends of a dark room. Satellite footage of Greenland's icecaps was projected onto the panels and programmed to be controlled by anyone walking around the pyramid. Depending on your distance to the pyramid, the icecaps evolve to reflect human impact.

Role: Creative Direction / Technical Direction (In partnership with Josie Glassman)

Design for Motion | Styleframes

In the world of animation, design is king. As an aspiring Creative Director, I spend a lot of time working on designing for motion. I like to play with a variety of mediums as I search for the perfect visuals to tell the right story. Below is a small sampling of my design work for motion.

If you've made it this far...

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Everything you've seen would not have been possible without the support of people like you. To me, storytelling is essential to the human experience. It is what makes us, us. As I move into the next chapter of my journey, I'm grateful for everything I've learnt.

Until our paths cross next time <3
