BURNOUT
An artist, by giving his full energy to the progress of his art and forgetting himself completely in the process, ends up being consumed by what was originally his source of motivation.
What is Burnout?
Burnout is a 2D animation degree short film, developed in the last year of the carreer at Escena: Escuela de Animación y Artes Creativas, located in Mexico City.
In a world where people's passion is a fire that motivates them to continue developing their talents, Simón, a young and tenacious artist, with his spark called Chispa, seeks to grow his talent rapidly without taking into account the consequences.

Our "Chispa"
What motivated us to tell this story is to give visibility to the burnout syndrome, highly common within the creative industry, and with it, to ponder whether our artistic growth is above our mental health.
We´re all Simon
"Burnout emerged as a desperate letter from me to me, as a clear sign that I had to stop demanding so much from myself and start prioritizing my physical and mental health as well. That's when Burnout began as an idea that little by little began to gain support. and the attention of people who, like me, lived similar situations".

Creative process
With Chispa we had a wide range of exploration for its design since, although we had clear that we were looking to achieve greater appeal with it, we did not know how to make it happend, we went through explorations of its shape, its acting and finally a restyling that gave us a good end result.
With Simón we were very clear from the beginning how we wanted him to look, so reaching a final result was not so complicated... until we realized that the design did not have the appeal we were looking for and we reconsidered the style of the character and the hole short film at all.
In the design of Simon's room we were looking for this very particular aesthetic that the rooms of foreign students have.
Young people who are living alone for the first time, there is disorder, piles of clothes and decoration that describe the tastes and their personalities, just as Simon.
At the Storyboard phase, we had many changes guided by our thesis advisors, without whom we would not have been able to reach the final result you've just saw (If you see this, thank you very much!)
Here's some background comparison of the first line pass to how they ended up being seen with animation
The animation was quite a challenge since we worked with a large group of animators and we had to take care that the style and model of the characters was maintained throughout the short film. We finally got there by creating a clear Animation guide that helped us build a procedural pipeline.
And last but not least
Thank you very much to all our talented work team without whom none of this would have been possible.
Muchas gracias Familia Burnout!!
