Round of applause for our sponsors

I Am Delighted to share my 3D animation demo reel with you for some of my shots from 2023.

Singing Shot

Software Used: Autodesk Maya (Animation)

                               Arnold (Rendering)

                               DaVinci Resolve (Edit/Colour Grading)

Breakdown

For this shot i wanted to embrace the rocker in me and choose to find part of a cover band of a song everyone knows but in a different way,

I landed on this part of total eclipse of the heart covered by a band called our last night,

I split this scene into 3 shots to break it up, i played with the camera with this to try give it more of a feeling it is being shot on a hand held camera,

For this shot I really wanted to focus on facial animation, as it was a different approach than talking facial animation.

Also with the drumming shot in the middle I wanted to show the body mechanics of fast focused movements.

Troll Vs Bear

Software Used: Autodesk Maya (Animation)

                               Unreal Engine 5 (Rendering)

                               DaVinci Resolve (Edit/Colour Grading)

                               Premiere Pro (Playblasting Edit)

Breakdown

This shot i wanted to show some body mechanics and creature animation together,

I started with the base of reference from the Hercules movie with the rock in it, and at start there is a montage where he runs up a tree and hits a giant creature.

From that I picked the bear rig and a troll rig and found some stylized village buildings from turbo squid.

I scaled the bear up to make him more menacing compared to the troll, and to give it the sense he needed to attack from up high to be able to take the bear down.

When I built the scene with the assets I got, I built a simple plane for the floor and spaced everything out into a village.

From here I split the scene into 5 shots with the camera Sequencer and split each camera into a new scene, to break it up and make it easier to work on.

While going through the animations i was playing with the background to try make a forest and i was using mash but i could never get it the way i wanted,

This is where i choose to start learning a bit of unreal engine 5, i rebuilt the scene using the landscaping tool and used the foliage tool to build the forest, this was going a lot smoother and after learning how to use get my animation into unreal then learning how to use the lights and cameras and adding fog and some atmosphere and sky and even rendering using unreal 5, i had a lot of fun learning more and more about this program and i will be going more into the engine to make some projects soon.

Out Of My Way

Software Used: Autodesk Maya (Animation)

                                Arnold (Rendering)

                               Premiere Pro (Edit/Colour Grading)

                               DaVinci Resolve (Edit/Colour Grading)

Breakdown

This was my first time doing lip sync,

I learnt a lot through this process but mainly about not acting out every letter but acting out groups of sounds to make it flow better.

I really enjoyed this shot and learning new skills and even adding little eye darts.

Bear Walk Cycle

Software Used: Autodesk Maya (Animation)

                                Arnold (Rendering)

                                DaVinci Resolve (Edit/Colour Grading)

Breakdown

I started off with a dog walk cycle but quickly changed to a bear walk after looking through reference.

I was drawn to do a bear walk due to wanting to show of weight of a heavier quadruped, and also because the size of bear its was fun to play with the paws and how the back paws are more stiff when crossing over so it was nice contrast between the back paws and front.

He's In Trouble

 Software Used: Autodesk Maya (Animation)

                                 Arnold (Rendering)

                                DaVinci Resolve (Edit/Colour Grading)

                                Premiere Pro (Audio Edit)

Breakdown

My project file for this shot got corrupted and I lost everything inside. I don't have a playblast for this one.

After doing the shot before, i wanted to do a shot with multiple characters,

When i saw the Dude Rig i know i wanted to use him in a shot where he is the kind of guy that everyone knows at least one of them and laugh about but would act like that themselves,

For this shot I really wanted to show a change of emotion of being a sly guy to oh no am in trouble, so I made sure to keep the girl out of camera until the right moment to give the change a visual reason.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my work,

I just also wanted to say a massive thank you to CG Spectrum for all the support and the amazing community with it,

And a Special thank you to my amazing mentors ( Billy Dao and Mark Pullyblank) who are now lifelong friends and hopefully we get to work together down the line.
