Hi ! I'm Crystal and I'm happy to present you my work as a Character / CFX artist for BLAZE and KARNAK short films made at NEW3DGE school. Hope you'll enjoy them !

Character : Shinji

Here is the character I made for the first short film BLAZE as my gradutaion project of VFX specialization at New3dge

I've done the modeling, texturing, simulation Cloth and simulation Hair/Fur.



Concept . My brother 

In our short, the main character is a Japanese Teenager. I was in charge to do the concept.

I was lucky to be the only Asian in the group to have a little brother who fit the description perfectly !
So my teammate and I decided to included him in the film. That's when I was able to model my own brother in 3D.


Lookdev

I worked the texturing part with my teammate Joshua Ribeiro, who helped and taught me a lot throughout the project.

The goal was to have very realistic textures while keeping in mind their develepment during the film: sweat, ashes, dirt, etc. And keep the smooth, youthful side of the young Asian boy.

Blenshapes 

To be able to make several facial expressions, they must be decomposed. 
I've sculpted about 50 blenshapes.
They were animated by Manel Allali

At first, I looked for references on the Internet, then I thought of using a mirror : my face and expressions suited the character, which was rather practical.

Character : Nenet

Here is the character I made for the second short film KARNAK, still at New3dge.

Same as the first character : I've done the modeling, texturing, lookdev, simulation Cloth and simulation Hair/Fur.

Time saved! This character didn't need blenshapes.



Concept

We had the chance to work with Anne FICHET, Regin WELLANDER, Céline CARIOU, Noel MARTINS, Jérôme BIANCHI from the class of Concept Artists in New3dge school.

Regin designed the character concepts.
Here's the one for Nenet :

Lookdev

We had 3 month to do something realistic for only 3 shots, I've used Substance Painter a lot to export precise maps and to work procedurally, pushing the texture further, and get a quick and overall good result.
