My Architectural Visualization Journey

Jimena Delgado Rivera
by jimenadelgado on 29 May 2023 for Rookie Awards 2023

Hello, my name is Jimena and I´m from Costa Rica. I made the decision to relocate to Spain, in pursuit of superior educational opportunities that would enable me to further develop my skills in the 3D world. For the past 8 months I´ve been part of the Architectural Visualization program at School-ing.

Round of applause for our sponsors

1. Villa Mandra / K-Studio

For my first architectural project I was inspired by a splendid villa located in Mykonos. My main objective was capturing the soul of a Mediterranean-style residence.

2. N-SC01 chair / Norm Architects

I am a devoted admirer of Japanese-style designs due to their refined elegance and sleek aesthetic. This particular scene draws inspiration form a Karimoku case study. I must confess that furniture modeling poses its own set of challenges and through this experience, I have gained a profound respect for professionals in this field.

3. Rybalsky Apartment / FILD design thinking company

Among all the projects I´ve worked on so far, this one stands out as my favorite. I firmly believe in the concept of “less is more”, and this project exemplifies that principle. The designer created a modern, sophisticated and calm space using only a few materials, patterns, textures and subtle hints of color.

The most challenging part was replicating the raw and rugged aesthetic of the exposed concrete to try and capture the true essence of the design. Additionally, I was thrilled to experiment with AI generated art which is showcased in the big blue painting the living room.

4. The Budapest Café / Biasol

For the interior module, I opted for a captivating monochromatic color scheme project. I was fascinated by the emotional design created by Biasol which seamlessly combined simplicity and aesthetic appeal. The space has an expressive feel inviting for deep exploration and analysis of its geometric shapes.

5. Urban mixed-use development

During this phase of the course, our objective was emulating the workflow of an architectural contest project. This was the first time handling complex scenes; therefore, optimization was key. Additionally, I incorporated Anima, a software application specifically designed for placing three-dimensional characters to enhance the overall atmosphere of scene.

6. Beauty & The Bit Masterclass

During this module, we were privileged to partake in a remarkable Masterclass led by Victor Bonafonte, esteemed CEO and creative director of Beauty & The Bit. Under his coaching, we learned about storytelling, artistic sensibility, and framing. The building we worked with is inspired by the V & A Dundee Museum designed by the renowned architect Kengo Kuma.

Eager for what is next to come...

Being a part of School-ing has been a dream of mine. I am forever grateful for the opportunity of this educational journey and for having exceptional teachers like Adan Martín and Eduardo Rodríguez. Their guidance and mentorship have ignited a profound passion for the 3D world and have imparted invaluable knowledge.

Although I recognize that I still have a long road ahead, I take immense pride in the process I have made in just eight months. This contest is not about being the best artist, but rather celebrating the remarkable distance I have covered on this transformative path.

Now, I’m ready to embark on the next phase of my journey where I envision collaborating with individuals who share my passion.
