Elisabet Trinh - Enviroment and Prop Showcase 2023

by ElisabetTrinh on 31 May 2023 for Rookie Awards 2023

A compilation of my best creations from 2022 to 2023. Last year I got accepted into a game school in Stockholm, The game assembly, and I've learned a lot since then. But I'm also grateful to the people posting content on the internet, whose teachings have also played a significant role in my learning journey.

Train Sation

personal project I spent working on outside of school hours, where I created a train station environment using Ji Hyun Kim's concept art. With their permission, I developed assets and textures that closely resembled their original concept, while incorporating a few modifications to align with my own vision.

Working on this environment was both enjoyable and educational, although I am satisfied with the final result considering the time constraints, I see several areas that have room for improvement. I will likely continue to work on this project in the future, refining it further.

A video render using UE5 sequencer and edited in DaVinci Resolve.

No Face

One of the inspirations for my vision of this environment are the movies from Studio Ghibli. Drawing from their  visual style, to add a touch of fun and intrigue, I decided to incorporate a character called No Face from the movie Spirited Away. There's a memorable scene in the film where No Face rides a train.

Train Station at Dawn

I experimented with the lighting of the environment, exploring how it would look under different lighting conditions.

Train Station Breakdown

I have created all of the assets and materials in the environment. The fog/cloud planes were created by the amazing William Faucher! I have also learned other things using his video tutorials.

Vertex Paint

To prevent repetition of the material I used Unreal Engine vertex paint to break up the material in different colors to get more variation.

Master Material

I made a few master materials with Unreal Engine blueprint, to be able to quickly change the color on my materials.

Flag movement

To create a more realistic video render I created simple movement on the flags with UE 5 blueprint.

Mountains painted in Adobe Photoshop

Revolver and Holster

A personal project I created inspired by Ilya Tolmachev concept arts , alongside other photo references for the materials. With permission, I meticulously modeled, textured, and rendered the project using Unreal Engine 5.

Steampunk Revolver

A fun project I worked on during an assignment for school, a steampunk revolver I created using Kris Thalers  concept art.

My goal with this project was to create a prop within a 4k polygon budget, as well as practising my texturing skills in Substance Painter.

CAT GASHAPON

For a school assignment, I was tasked with creating a prop, and I chose to model a Sega game console  concepted by Arne Niklas Jansson Fami Cube concept. I was pleased with the final result of the prop and felt motivated to further build the scene after school hours.

All the assets in the scene were created by me, except for the tatami mat, which was sourced from Quixel Megascans.
