Clément Tesolin - Concept Art - 2023
Hi everyone, I'm Clément, I'm 20 and I'm happy to present the projects I've worked on during the last 6 months of my second year. This period was important for me as it helped me to refine my style !
Environment design
Here's an overview of my environment projects. It's important to develop a story and incorporate additional elements to create an immersive environment, going beyond a simple final rendering.
The plants of Yrrea
My goal was to design a plant board for a possible environment. I created a series of concepts that can fit into an universe. I also had to explain how each plant works. I have to choose the climate in which this flora would evolve. I found the sulfur plants to be an interesting challenge.
Perce neige quarry
The goal of this environment was to create a two-stage story. The first stage took place before an event, while the second stage occurred afterwards. I collaborated with my classmate Adam Bezzaouya, to develop the lore of the story. I designed the first environment and then drop the image to my friend to create the second part.
The Oros monastery
Here’s the last project of the year! The monastery of Oros is a retrospective of my working method. Sketches, lore and final render. We were to create a fantasy world monastery welcoming travelers and take care the sick. I did this in 2 weeks, it was a good challenge !
Character design
Even though my main goal is to create environments, I like to do characters. They bring these to life :)
Ambivalence characters
Ambivalence was a group project focused on character design, where we were tasked to create a gameplay prototype for a game. This world hides mythical weapons that possess their own will. It was once said that these weapons were neutral and had no positive or negative influence on their wielders. However, it didn't take long for them to feed on their wielders, capturing their deepest emotions.
The goal of Wrath was to create a classic villain character, inspired by volcanic rocks.
On the other side, Charity is the opposite of the previous character. It’s inspired by candle wax.
The zombie conquistador
This project focused on the line art. The goal was to create a full-body view and a turn around of a zombie fighter. I drew inspiration from the era of the conquistadors to design this character. We had to put a lot of details on the character.
Death Pit
Death Pit is originally a storytelling project where I had to present the transformation of a character. My task was to design the character before and after the transformation, showing the different stages. I also had to create a colorized storyboard depicting a potential scene in which the character morphs. I found it was fun to develop the story of the project :D
Personnal project
It was a challenge with my friends, and we set to create a character in just 2 days. I took inspiration from the yakuza and birds for this one. It was a great experience and a valuable retrospective on what I could produce within a very limited time.
Creature design
To finish with the concept art, here are two creatures ! Our teacher gave us to study an animal and then make a creature in relation with it.
The colossus of the red lands
We had to work on invertebrates. I had to make a horrific creature. The idea of the verse was for me a cool thing.
The nebula cave feline
During our sessions, we studied felines. I had a lot of fun creating a creature that was a mix of a feline and a bat, living in caves. The feature of this creature is that its fur enables it to resist water, allowing it to pass through flooded passages.
Other works
That's it ! I'm excited to continue in this direction and give better works, and I hope you've enjoyed my entry ! See you the next year :D
