Mireia Moreno / VFX Artist
Hello, I am a final-year student in the Advanced Houdini for VFX Master's program at FX Barcelona Film School. All the projects showcased below are personal works completed within a limited timeframe for the master's program
The panic room
This project was carried out within a one-month timeframe, during which I had to discover through trial and error the most realistic way to create a liquid that resembled blood, without it being too transparent or too viscous.
Since the goal was for viewers to not realize it was blood until it was revealed, I had to create an additional simulation to push the blood further towards the end of the room.
The extra simulations of the grids also added an extra touch of suspense with the slight movement of the box.
Attack zombie
In this project, five custom characters were created using Fuse, where their clothes were stained with blood and dirt to give them a more zombie-like appearance. The main character had a specific animation transition created for them to jump off the building and transform into a ragdoll.
It was a challenging task to create ragdolls for multiple characters, but I'm pleased with the final result and how it achieved my goal of having the zombies follow the main character to the edge of the building.
I also had to create an additional crowd simulation in the foreground, where we can see in great detail how the zombies climb the stairs following a path that guides them in the right direction, controlling the normals to ensure they don't shift position when turning.
As with any project, the importance of a good environment is key to making everything look better. I set my scene in a cloudy sunset to enhance the overall atmosphere.
White stag
I conclude with this final grooming project, which, like the other two, was completed within a three-week period.
In these sequences, my main goal was to make the environment look as realistic as possible, especially with the water puddle, aiming for a reflection of the animal approaching the camera. The objective was to create a slightly more fantastical look by featuring a gray-white deer entering the scene through the meadow.
