Graduation Project

Here is my graduation project done at New3Dge Concept Art.  My choice was to redesign the famous science-fiction show "Neo Genesis Evangelion" in a neo-gothic direction, while keeping a Sci-fi aspect in the design. The aim here was to come up with the concept of a third-person game where the goal would be to kill an angel (boss) in a limited time. Here you'll discover the design of EVA 01, an artificial human created to fight angels, Zeruel, the 14th angel and enemy of humanity, and Shinji, pilot of EVA 01.

Note: I thought the chara for a 3rd person game. So I decided to replace the cable that powers the EVA (from the original show) by a battery, which avoids having a cable that goes nowhere. The battery could also dertiminate the time of the game.

The difficulty of this design was to keep the idea, the concept, but to create something new and not a skin of the original show. For the design, I chose a more elongated shape with more exaggerated proportions. I took elements of neo-gothic armor, but redesigned them to achieve something a little more sci-fi in appearance. The neo gothic style is rich in detail, but I've chosen to limit myself to keep the sci-fi clean approach I like. 

Creating an angel was a challenge. In "Neo Genesis Evangelion" an angel can be basically anything, so the possibilities were great. I tested different approaches before finding something that suited the project. For his design I wanted a contrast, an opposition to the EVA 01, Zeruel has ornaments and shapes much rounder, softer and is overall more colorful even if some more aggressive elements are present in his design.

Shinji is the third child designed to pilot Unit 01. He is only 14 years old and is a rather introverted and depressive child who has to carry the responsibility of defending humanity from the angels' attack. It's something I really wanted to mark on his face with his expression but also his dark circles.

In keeping with the idea of blending neo-gothic elements with a more sci-fi approach, I drew my inspiration from "tech wear", mixing it with some medieval clothing pieces and embellishing them with gothic details. I also played with textures to achieve something a little closer to science fiction. Also, to be a little more consistent with the desired ambiance, I chose to re-situate the action in more Germanic countries.

Group Project

CGI/Game Art project - Aqua Heroes

Below are the concept art I've created for Aqua Heroes, one of the yearly project at New3dge, laying the foundation for the Game Art and CGI students, whose works are showcased in the subsequent slider presentation, bringing the initial concepts to life.
The Leviathan, the final boss! Much bigger and tougher than the others, you'll have to destroy all its weak points to defeat it. 

The Walker, small and not very mobile, is the first enemy the player encounters, and like the others, he has a weak point in his back. He won't be too hard to take down if you're vigilant, but be careful! They can quickly become numerous.

The Watcher's role is to keep watch. Be careful: if he spots you, he could bring in other enemies and attack you!

The Bossu is a small boss who could well be your first big obstacle in the game. This enemy was created for the game trailer made by the CGI section of the school.

I am Antoine Gadoud, 23 years old. I specialize more in character design and prop design. I like sci-fi as much as fantasy all in a semi realistic style because I like to play with the shapes and the proportions of the things I create!

Project done during the AEON's class at New3dge concept art school, supervised by Jens Claessens. The goal was to design teachers and students of a special school where everyone has the possibility to change into a monster.

- Irvina is a vampire alchemy teacher passionate about fungi and mold, she is strict and severe, it is better not to disturb her in her research.

- Eben is the problem child of the school, he is a rebel who likes to challenge authority, he is a dragon and plays with his appearance to impose himself or to make himself more threatening.

Research sketch for a Titanfall redesign. For this exercise we were completely free and supervised by Wouter Gort. Second project done at New3Dge during the AEON's class.

Third project done during the AEON's class at New3Dge, supervised by Boell Oyino , great project where the goal was to create a stylised character with some skins.

Project done during chara/creature design course at New3Dge with Simon Tosovsky. The goal was to design a rescue worker arriving on an unknown planet and having to deal with a rather dangerous fauna.

Fan skin made to train me to think of a character from multiple angles with the in-game view of the character, as well as to train me to respect an already existing AD and theme.

Other personal or school work that I have done, props, vehicles and weapons that I also like to conceptualize.

Here is the end of this post, my years spent at New3Dge Concept Art were a great experience where I made enormous progress. I'm happy with this post to show what I'm currently capable of and I look forward to progressing further and gaining more experience in the video game industry as a concept artist.
