Simar Randhawa - Concept Art Portfolio 2023
CG Spectrum Concept Art alumni, currently looking to further my education in entertainment design, with a focus on fantasy/sci-fi character and environment design.
These pieces have been illustrated through a multi-phase process of thumbnails, sketching, line-art work, a rough value-map and then directly applying colours once the line-art and mapping have been refined. Any additional dynamic lighting used is painted over on top as a finishing touch.
Demon character illustration for my upcoming personal project. This character is being grabbed by multiple enemies, has one of his horns ripped off and is profusely bleeding. Used cool blue colours to illustrate the "zombie" like nature of the enemies, whilst the face has a de-saturated, warm tone. The highlight of the piece is the bloody nature of the character, hence a deeply saturated red is used.
The emperor antagonist for my personal project. Terrified in the face of his burning city, he's a coward, ready to run instead of defending his home. Here, whilst the face was the key aspect of the piece, I wanted to accentuate the setting of the burning city, hence quite a saturated orange has been used for the background. Unlike the protagonist, the antagonist is quite unstable, insecure and cold-hearted, hence his face is painted with shades of blue.
Necromancer, demon character concept I created inspired by a fusion of fantasy and modern styles. Went through a few stylistic changes throughout the design process which can be seen via the slider.
