Bartholomew's magic Forest
Here is a short film we made during our 3rd year at ESMA. We had to create a 30 seconds short movie in 6 weeks of production. Hope you like it!
Characters
Our two main characters are Timothy, a 5 years old boy, and his idol Bartholomew, the mascot of his famous show Batholomew's magic forest. Here are some concept arts and breakdown of them!
Lighting, FX and Compositing
For a first animated short movie, it was a huge challenge to have one of our characters catching fire, because of the fire simulations, the change of lighting, and then to make all that work in compositing.
Rig
The main challenge for the rig department, was the time: since the project was only 6 weeks long, we only had a few days to rig all characters and props. But we managed to it, with some great features (I hope you noticed the star shape controller for Bartholomew's eyes!).
Environment
We tried to recreate the atmosphere of a kids TV show through the environment. It had to give the audience that weird feeling: a beautiful colored forest, but made out of cardboard, plastic, wood, in order to look fake. Here are some concept arts and breakdowns of how we made it in Maya, and also in procedural in Houdini for the groud and the plants.
