Round of applause for our sponsors

Hello! I would like to introduce you my Foundation project at the Think Tank Training Centre. it was created on the basis of the concept of one wonderful artist Maxim Revin. I just fell in love with his space station series. Space has always fascinated me, and besides, this is my first project of this kind. Here I tried to convey not only the similarity with the original idea, but also to capture exactly that atmosphere in order to immerse the viewer in this story as much as possible, even if it the only one engineering module.

First stage

The project was decided to focus on realism as much as possible. that's why I explored a large volume of Space Shuttle photos, as well as the archive database of NASA photographs and the virtual tour of the International Space Station. Ideas for lighting and general final submission were found on my favorite Pinterest service. Since it was the final project of the training semester, I was limited to 4 weeks. Therefore, I had to do a little work and break down the schedule of all stages in as much detail as possible, this helped me more flexibly control the current progress based on the original time.

Modeling process

The modeling process was completed in two stages and took about 1 week. During the blocking process I was added the main lighting scheme and polished at the final step.

Texturing and Lookdev phase

All hard surfaces models were textured in Substance Painter. Several models such as ventilation pipes and emergency backpacks were sculpted in Mudbox and further textured in Mari. In the Lookdev stage I used simple single-layer procedural materials, since all the source maps were generated in texture editors.

Final touches

The final step was to correct all the textures of the materials according to the concept and add some vfx elements. such as fog, dust, shadow catcher and additional fake lights.

I am very glad that I was able to cope with such an interesting and at the same time not an easy project for me, it was a real challenge. Many thanks to the whole Think Tank Training Centre team and my supervisor Derrick Sesson who helped me overcome such a difficult task. I hope you liked it and thanks for watching :)
