Coline Meurville-Showreel 2023

by Meurville on 25 May 2023 for Rookie Awards 2023

Those are two of my ESMA school projects accomplished in 2023. I learned about organic sculpting and grooming and I must say I loved it. I am deeply in love with texturing (and grooming now) so I keep on working on those to improve.

Plant in a pot

(all aspects)

This is a school project which assignement was: "Create a plant and design its pot".  I decided to challenge myself by making it realistic and with a clean topology.
I got inspired by the plant from the movie Wall-E that I twisted by choosing poison Ivy instead of the original one, to better match the rough look of the shoe. It was also a challenge to arrange the leaves and vines in order to give a natural look to my first trial at modelising organic subjects.

Studio render

Here is the studio type render with my topology, direct specular albedo and final beauty lit.

Lighting

Final render

Here, the render with context. I wanted to create an eerie mood so I thought: What's eerier than a narrow dim-litted street at night ? I was inspired by the lighting of "Little Nightmares", that I find very effective to transmit that peculiar feeling and adapted it to my composition.

I finalised this project in about a month, this was part of the challenge. The aim was to focus on modelizing organic subjects and achieve the most realistic shading and lighting.

Fur project

(all aspects)

This second project is all about fur and XGen, I had to sculpt an animal head and shade it. I chose my dog, who is a Brie Sheperd, I thought his long hair would be interesting to work on since he has multiple types of hair (long, short, medium).
