Ugg - The Tribal Man
Ugg - The Tribal Man is a project I've been working on for the past few months. This project was made specifically for the Rookies 2023 as I am very interested in a potential career opportunity with PlaySide.
Ugg: Face Closeup
Ugg the Tribal Man is based upon a concept art piece by "Hyojong Chu" titled "Tribal Character"
Ugg was created using Autodesk Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter and Marmoset Toolbag. Each software individually assisted me in creating each aspect of Ugg.
This project was the first time I used Xgen, which allowed me to develop my skills with grooming tools in Maya. I was able to learn a variety of fundamentals of creating hair such as hair line structure, hair density, hair colours, hair type and materials.

Ugg Back
This project required an in depth focus on anatomy due to the important muscle landmarks being displayed on Ugg.
The muscles played a vital role in the story of Ugg, Given the character's wild surroundings, it was crucial to depict a physique tailored for hunting and survival in the wilderness.

Colour Variations
Alternating and experimenting with the colours for the paint and trying to find an ideal final render.
The original paint colour for Ugg was set as blue. However, as the development progressed, it became evident that the blue hue created a disproportionate contrast with both the character's skin tone and the colors of the armor. In light of this, I made a deliberate decision to opt for a White/Grey paint scheme, which blended more effectively with the natural tones of the skin and amplified the tribal aesthetic of the character.
By gathering references including anatomy, topology, armor, cloth, skin, and lighting, I significantly improved the development process of Ugg. The availability of these references allowed me to efficiently create my envisioned concept, ensuring that every aspect of the character aligned with my creative vision.
The acquired references served as invaluable resources, allowing me to execute my ideas with enhanced precision and effectiveness.
