Blood Council Cleric
This is a 3D recreation of the illustration "Blood Council Cleric" By Alex Konstad. I created this piece for my Foundation Term final project at Think Tank Online.
To begin this project, I prepared an image plane in Maya using the original concept art, linked to a camera that was locked in place. This camera was used for all future renders to make sure everything lined up properly. I then created a rough block-out of the character and props, including some simple lights.
I then polished up the hard-surface props. Everything was UV'd and I applied a checker texture to test everything.
The blood was sculpted in ZBrush as well, but hidden from the render for now.
The materials were then created in Substance Painter. There was a lot of back and forth between Maya and Substance Painter to adjust the details until I was pleased with the result. I started refining the lighting at this point as well.
Some UVs needed tweaking, so I took the time to polish up the rough spots. I then created V-ray materials for the blood, gemstone and skin.
At this point, everything was in place - I tweaked the lighting once more, and created my final render. This render was then taken into Adobe Photoshop for post-processing, leading to the final result.
