Hi everyone! Here's a character design project that I made. Layla Paucar is a modern andean witch. Also, you can see the work I've done during my concept art master at Voxel School. It has been an awesome year. I hope you'll enjoy my work.

Layla Paucar lives in a city located in the Andes Mountains where ancient magic has met modernity. Alongside her dear llama companion, she’ll have many adventures that will teach her how to master her family’s inherited power, even though this also means facing powerful enemies... including her own laziness. Layla’s name means “sparse and loose fabric” which could explain her carefree personality.

Layla's outfit is based on the traditional clothing of Cusco (Peru) women with a modern approach taking some elements from shamanic tradition. Her powers come from nature and are related to plants. For example her staff is made from ayahuasca branch, a psychedelic plant, and she also uses coca leaves to conjure magic.

Layla lives in Qosqo, the capital of the Quechua Kingdom. For better reference I made a map  for these lands. Exploration of concepts led me to the outfits that the locals wear and also I explore some designs for the King (Inca), Queen (Coya) and Prince and Princess of this Kingdom. Finally, I made an illustration of the landscape of Qosqo.

These are projects that I made during my concept art master at Voxel School this year. It was an incredible year making characters, creatures, props and environments.

This exercise was about transform the concept of Noelle (from Genshin Impact) to any other genre. In this case, I choose to transform the medieval fantasy genre to a futuristic corporative theme (kind of cyberpunk). In that order, the knight/maid became a bodyguard of a rich corporative family who is always at war with the other families in a futuristic world.

These are other character design works I've done where I used various themes to practice genres like fantasy or science fiction. I also did an interesting exercise consisting of creating a character from an object.

For this section, my process started with a wide exploration of shapes with a fantasy creature in mind. Next, picking up the most interesting silhouettes and iterating a few more times. The final design I went with was a quadruped creature, mostly based on animal structures of deer, giraffes, and taking special cues from okapi.

In this project, I chose to make a magical staff/spear that could detach its head in order to reveal floating blades. According to the brief lore created, the spear belonged to a god named Occasious.

This landscape was conceived as a general plain of Imperion, a futuristic city in the desert that grew tall like towers and was destroyed in one night by a powerful earthquake that caused the earth to crack.

This environment was made as a practice of mattepainting. I used and modify photos of mountains in Arequipa (a peruvian region) and painted over to create this new landscape.

Finally, I made this landscape with the phrase "The path less transited" on mind. Our protagonists want to reach the peak of the magical mountain traveling across a forgotten path.
