Estela, The Maraguá Girl

It's a short film made as the final project of my Animation Design degree at Méliès College (2021-2022). I spent exactly 1 year and 7 months working on it.

Synopsis: A young brazilian indigenous girl who lives in a metropolis finds herself lost and in the midst of a creative crisis. As she sleeps, she embarks on a dreamlike journey that will take her back to her cultural origins.

Process

I did almost all the processes, I did the script, concept, colorscript, storyboard, animatic, modeling, lookdev, retopology, post production, some blendshapes in Zbrush, drawings, 2D Animaion, Logo/Key Visual and others.

The rig was made by: Isadora Pinotti Brisa, Gabriel Vinicius and by me. And the animation was made by: Ernani Neto, Giancarlo Gonzalez, Kevin Forster.   (I also made some adjustments in the animations).

Character

Estela was born out of a significant moment in my life, where I aimed to convey the experience of feeling lost, confronting personal obstacles, and often losing touch with our own origins and sources of inspiration.

By giving Estela a dream and guiding her on a journey of reconnecting with her roots and family, my intention was to inspire others to engage in self-reflection and rediscover the inner fire that defines them.

Additionally, my inspiration drew from the shared Maraguá origins conveyed by indigenous Roni Wasiry Guará. Estela represents not only an artist but also a member of the Maraguá indigenous community, who, over time, had to depart from her roots and unfortunately grew distant from them.

The main idea is that anyone, whether they are indigenous, an artist, a professional, or someone who has changed their name, can identify with Estela or, rather, with Siwari Maraguá!
