The Spirit of Joy

A digitally realised six outfit womenswear collection with focus on the virtual translation of  textile embellishments (knit, embroidery and dye).

Inspired by how God describes the joy of dance and how the heavens reflect His glory, expressing a desire to dance into the sunset. The colour palette, fabric choice and design took inspiration from the sunrise on the sea to manifest the movement of water in the garments. The project shows these concepts through digital textile applications, therefore elevating the textiles and replicating the techniques within the virtual world of fashion.

'The Spirit of Joy' is a fashion collection digitally assembled using the softwares of CLO3D, Blender, Twinmotion and Adobe and is an expressive, freeing, eccentric,  and colourful range.

The concept was developed through the inspiration of dance and my experience in the ocean, using it to inform silhouette and embroidery designs. These themes and designs illuminated embroidery impressions using the Wilcom software, showing both the movement of the waves and the movement of the clothes.

Design development

In order to maximise efficiency everything was designed and created in CLO3D prior to physical manufacture.

The techniques of embroidery, dye and knit were skilfully textured in the digital garments to the same standard as the physical garments.

Line Up (Front and Back)

Animation

The collection evolved through the animating of the outfits and avatars. I started with renders of the collection on a black background to show their dynamic movement. When this proved successful I replaced the background to simulate the video animation I planned to make.

Finally these animations were put into production in combination with a video I had taken of the sea, generating a digital dance animation.

I collaborated with my brother, Daniel Taviansky to create the music and he captured the mood perfectly.

Virtual showroom

In further collaboration, Daniel Taviansky also composed the music for the virtual show space for the collection to sit in.

The walkway features frozen waves to walk through as the building is approached. On the sides of the building I positioned fire breathing cherubim's and doors engraved with dance poses. As one enters the room they observe a large glass sculpture in the centre, with images of the physical garments on the right and on the left are the process photos. The back of the room has some of the outfits on mannequins and through the back door is a dome where the live animation is playing of the avatars dancing. Upstairs through the elevator is an array of stained glass windows made from the physical garments from the editorial.

The sunset lighting creates an ambient, quiet and reflective environment adding to its glory whilst complementing the unique aesthetic of the collection. This showroom is made and designed as an immersive experience for the viewer. Created using the software of Twinmotion using a VR headset the viewer can see everything in virtual reality.
