Marc Reuter Rookies entry 2023
These are all personal projects I did on the side next to my uni work. I started working on them in march with the beginning of the new semester.
Sci Fi City environment
This is a Bladerunner inspired Sci Fi City environment I made using Maya, Arnold, Photoshop and Nuke. I created multiple kitbash sets. One for the buildings and one for mid to small size details, like fire ladders and antennas. The character in the foreground is a 3D scan of myself. I built multiple different procedural shaders. That made it easy to create variations of assets. The holograms were also made in Maya using Mash and procedural shading. Textures on the billboards were made in Photoshop. For the compositing, I created procedural smoke and rain elements in Nuke, which I could then place on cards and composite in between buildings to further give it depth.

B1 Battledroid from Star Wars
The goal of this project was to accuratley recreate a production ready droid that matches the ones shown in "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace". Modeling was done in Maya, Texturing in Mari and final shading in Arnold.
Lookdev turntable with passes breakdown
I used a full Aces workflow inside of Mari so all the textures would be displayed correctly when rendering in Arnold.
When looking for references, I realized that they actually used real props as well as CG models on the movie. The real props were mostly used in the battle of Naboo. They seem to be more glossy and have less damage, whereas the CG ones had less specular but showed more signs of wear. I ended up going for a mix of both with my droid.
Gonk environment
Another environment I created. It shows a Gonk droid from Star Wars that under mysterious circumstances ended up in an incubator. All modeling was done in Maya, texturing of the Gonk was done in Mari, shading and rendering with Arnold and compositing in Nuke.
Lookdev turntable
Also here I used a full Aces workflow in Mari and Arnold to get the best and most accurate results.
