Flyover Challenge

CG Spectrum tasked students and alumni to two challenges - the first being to create a DMP from some footage which was won by David Dixon, the second to take the DMP winners work and create a composite from this. This was my entry and breakdown for which I won! After watching an episode of The Mandalorian I thought I'd turn it into a POV ship scene, I downloaded a free HD greenscreen ship layer from 1 Stop Youtube Channel, with the effects primarily coming from Footagecrate and textures that I made or found on the internet to create the final shot within Nuke.

Greenscreen Removal

This was a recent test done for a company to see how I fair with greenscreen removal and clean up, there's no background on the shot because of this. I've placed a chequerboard behind it so you can see the edge details, I use a variety of keyers on different areas of the shot, which is something I incorporate on all greenscreen work I've done previously.

Digital Matte Paintings

To brush up on my colour, lighting and building I created several projects of Digital Matte Paintings. I did these as small projects to run alongside my big Nuke projects and occasioanly using these as backgrounds for some of the shots previewed within my demoreel.

By trade, I work as photo retoucher and editor, so during my lunch or when I have a bit of spare time I like to test my technical skills to create something small from several photos as well as illustrations, testing out new actions and brushes in photoshop. All of which help to translate into compositing with creating new worlds and becoming technical with colour and lighting.

Visual Development Project

The Watcher

This was a personal project that I'd been working on, inspired by the game 'Destiny' and the film 'Oblivion'. My concept is around sentient beings that have come to Earth and are planning on starting the world over. I have created several versions for these in various scenarios and I'm currently working on creating shots for them which is more time-consuming, so here's a glimpse of the images and DMP's created for the visual development.
