Idea

LocalARt is a project that merges technology and culture. Its aim is to draw attention to these little cultural gems that are fading away. We're talking about an awareness tool that integrates QR marker geolocation on an interactive map with augmented reality to preserve cultural heritage in an accessible and appealing manner. And all of this, from any mobile device.

Concept & Idea

Rural Spain is calling for help. Out of 8000 villages in Spain, more than 3000 are already uninhabited. Their cultural heritage, immortalized in monuments, is at risk of disappearing. Despite the beauty and historical significance of these places, these monuments are doomed to be forgotten. But... what if there was a way to highlight them on the map?

Goal

This project aims to raise awareness about the significant loss of heritage in depopulated areas of Spain, with the objective of generating user interest in these locations, alongside their potential recovery or reconstruction efforts. The main goal is to reach the target audience: activists, students and people with art and cultural interests around the world.

Although right now LocalARt has three monuments in its data base, it is thought to be an escalabilty tool to pick up the monuments that have more risk of disappearing. This is the interactive map, where the points are marked through QR markers. You can access through localart.sasenart.es

3D Design

I visited physically these locations in order to take visual documentation to check the heritage preservation state. Then, I 3D modeled the main edifications.

Walkthrough

Spark AR development

I implemented the 3D models into Spark AR to publish and share the experience with its target audience. For example, the Navalquejigo Church filter was shared more than 300 times, with 3000+ impressions around the world. From Spain, to Indonesia and Argentina. This data was provide by Spark AR Filters Administrator.
