Shaping Visions
A showcase of my first year at YRGO. This collection shows my growth, skills, and dedication throughout my journey. Explore a diverse range of projects that reflect my passion for visualization.
Urban Architecture
We collaborated with Pixelflakes on the Kirklees Cultural Heart project in Huddersfield, UK. Our goal was to reimagine and recreate their existing project. We had access to Revit models, floor plans, and material- and vegetation specifications.
The focus was to showcase the project's original vision while incorporating my own creative perspective. Specifically, I aimed to highlight the gallery and capture the serene and inviting ambiance of a warm summer day.
Matte Painting
For this visualization project, we were given the simple brief of creating a structure within an environment using primarily Photoshop, using the work style known as matte painting. To begin, three sketches were created to explore different feelings for the environment and establish the lighting and color scheme. After presenting the sketches, a vote determined which one would be developed further. To ensure accurate proportions, a 3D base was used as a reference during scene construction.
Given the project's flexibility, I took the opportunity to infuse a sense of fantasy. I envisioned a mountain valley where certain areas were drifting away. Also instead of a conventional building, I opted for an abstract structure situated on one of the floating islands. It was an enjoyable challenge to harmonize the different segments of the scene.
The Villa
The assignment involved creating an accurate representation of a Nordic villa using CAD drawings provided by Alingsås Huspaket. As it was an exterior project, an appropriate environment needed to be constructed. Each participant selected a house geographically located in the Nordic region. Throughout the project, we utilized ForestPack and RailClone, which played significant roles. Additionally, individual meetings with an architect were held to receive feedback and input on our work.
The house assigned to me was a "sekelskifteshus" or "turn of the century house." With its older design, it exudes a comforting presence. To harmonize with the surrounding forest and create a serene atmosphere, I chose green paint. For added inspiration, I imagined the house to be located in Öland, incorporating elements such as sand and a its forest into the environment design.
The Hotel
The group project entailed creating a hotel in a specific region, and each group consisted of three members. Our objective was to capture a consistent atmosphere across all the hotel rooms.
My group was assigned to Jaipur, India, which required us to delve into the country's culture and conduct extensive research and development (R&D) to ensure a respectful approach.
My specific assignment was the lobby/reception area. I aimed to design an open space with prominent pillars as the room's structural elements, incorporating vibrant colors and various fabric variations. The goal was to evoke the feeling of being in a distant country on vacation with a warm atmosphere and other attributes. I also conducted a solar study to ensure geographical accuracy based on the location's position.
Modeling
The assignment involved selecting an existing chair and using pictures or other references to model and texture it. We were required to create four different photos: a close-up shot, a studio photo, a wireframe photo, and an advertisement.
The specific chair I chose was the "Lama" lounge chair designed by Ludovica+Roberto Palomba. Using 3ds Max, I built the chair from scratch and utilized UVW-unwrap for material adjustments.
For the advertisement picture, I aimed to create an abstract scene that played with shapes surrounding the chair. I incorporated a rocking horse as a reference to the chair, as the "Lama" reminded me of a saddle upon first time seeing it.
Renovation Object
The assignment required selecting a house or apartment in need of renovation and creating visualizations to showcase its potential. To accomplish this, we utilized photos of the house and its floor plans to recreate it digitally.
This particular house is situated amidst a forest in Röstånga, Skåne in southern Sweden. To create a cozy and inviting atmosphere, we incorporated a touch of cold ambiance that enhances the comfort of staying indoors.
I encountered a discrepancy between the interior pictures and the floor levels. Therefore, I decided to rely on the drawings as my main reference.
For the initial phase of the project, each participant had to choose at least two different rooms to focus on. In my case, I selected the kitchen and the living room.
The Kitchen
In the first room, the kitchen, my aim was to modernize it with a clean design that is visually pleasing.
Given the limited space, I also wanted to create a sense of openness and breathability within the room.
The Living Room
In the second room, the living room, I had the opportunity to explore more creativity and experimentation.
Alongside the required visualizations, I decided to create an additional picture to have some fun and test different ideas. This particular picture features a cat and "fika", adding an element of charm and playfulness to the scene.
Abstract
This was my first 3D visualization project i did at YRGO. The task involved selecting an artwork, analyzing its qualities, and using them as inspiration to create a room or studio. I chose the painting "Two Dancers On Stage" (1877) by Edgar Degas.
The main challenge I encountered during this assignment was composing the scene effectively. Despite the challenge, it was an enjoyable and engaging first task.
Extra
Unreal Engine
I started this project in May and dedicated a total of two days to its completion. Within this timeframe, I created an animation and captured environment pictures using downloaded assets. It was also my first experience using Unreal Engine, and I took the opportunity to learn the program.
On the first day, I familiarized myself with the basics of the software and successfully rendered a single picture. The second day allowed me to expand my knowledge further. I learned to apply additional effects, animate objects using keyframes, and successfully render a video.
