HADES

My first project of my first set of demo reel classes at Gnomon. This project was good sculpting practice and it was fun working on all the little details. I had a good time working and improving my lighting skills and camera work, diving deeper into unreal and the power post processing has. I made this scene is made in modular pieces, blocked out in maya, sculpted in zbrush, textured in substance and then assembled it all together in Unreal Engine 5. I am usually more drawn to bright, fun, and magical scenes so this was definitely a different tone for me but I had a blast putting it together. I'm looking forward to continue to push myself out of my comfort zone and make bigger and better worlds.

The original concept is by Sebastian Luca

Kit

I was very excited to create the props for this scene. The creation of the props is one of my favorite steps in making a scene. I really wanted to make the animals look like statues, I looked at a lot of old Hellenistic sculptures for help. For the architecture pieces I looked into Roman and Greek work. Most of the props were blocked out in Maya and then taken into Zbrush.

Trim Sheet

I created this trim by blocking out and using alphas in zbrush. I then baked it down onto a plane to be used as a trim sheet. It was my first time making my own trim sheet and in the end it really helped me save time in texturing my scene. It was an easy way to add another level of detail to my scene.

The Observatory

One of the two environments I made for my first set of demo reel classes at Gnomon. Very very pleased with how it turned out. It was a passion project for sure, I just wish I could be there now.

Textures

In the creation of this scene I had to make a lot of original materials, here are a few. All of these textures we made in substance designer

Kit

This project definitely pushed my prop making skill a lot. I modeled all props in Maya before bringing them into zbrush if I believed they needed more detail. I then would take them into substance painter to finish them up.

Observatory - Night

What is the point of an Observatory if you can't even look at the stars? I thought it would be nice to see this place at night, a good alternate lighting scenario and lighting practice. All of the vfx in this scene were created in Niagara in Unreal. The floating sparkles and shooting stars was a perfect cherry on top for me.

The original concept is by 有里(Yuuri) on twitter.

The music used is an instrumental cover of Moon Waltz originally by Mio Isayama.

The trees and plants are a mix of Megascans + Speedtree and Dreamscape series on the UE marketplace.

Abandoned Theater

The final scene I made during my time at Gnomon. I wanted to tackle an environment that was dilapidated, to get outside my comfort zone. I tend to lean more into cleaner, organized, and lived-in environments. I decided to push myself a bit to make something with a bit more grunge.

Motorcycle BMW 1943

I originally created this model for another class at Gnomon. I thought it would be a good idea to put it into the scene to add some story telling elements.

Textures

I made a handful of textures for this scene. I had to dive into more grungy textures that I'm not as comfortable with. I personally really enjoy clean looking surfaces so this was a good exercise for me.

Thank you!

Thanks for taking a look at my work! I'm always excited to continue to grow and learn even with my time at Gnomon being over. I'm looking forward to continue making fun new worlds.

I also want to say a big thank you to Gnomon! I wouldn't be where I am today without the guidance from the many amazing instructors at Gnomon. I'm so thankful that I am able to make a living from what I love doing and I'm so thankful the people at Gnomon believed in me. As I move away from being a Rookie and into my career I'll always be so grateful for the many amazing artists that have helped me be who I am today. I'll never be able to say thank you enough!
