Round of applause for our sponsors

A planet with a strange gravitational phenomenon pulls in space junk from around the solar system. Dubbed “The Scrap Lands” for being the scrap yard of the solar system or more commonly called the “point of no return", as no one who has been pulled in can ever escape.

The City Forge -

“Geothermal energy isn't enough to power and heat everything; however, the sky has blessed us with the largest gift of them all. Half of a galactic vessel which survived the fall and its power core thankfully still intact. The initial impact destroyed half our supplies and buildings, setting us back, but the positives of this new energy source outweigh our losses and we will surely make up for it!”

"Building around this vessel we have converted it into the heart of the city that we use to power our lone society fueling the ever-hungry flames of this new beast, to stave off this frozen wasteland we are forced to call home. Feeding it scrap in exchange for usable building materials and resources, increases our chances of survival."

With this keyframe I pushed to further utilise Blender as a blockout tool for concept art. Using metaballs as bases to sketch over, then creating a refined blockout with photo textures/lighting to paint over.

The Geothermal Plant -

On the city outskirts the engineers have set up a series of buildings from a field research lab to small civilian outposts. Most importantly the geothermal plant which is a major contributor to the city's power and heat. Connecting to the other building and to the city across the icy planes via complex pipe networks.

"We are but a small team of survivors trapped on this cruel planet yet we have prevailed achieving feats we would have never believed were possible. It is only through innovation and creation that we have taken the fallen parts from the sky to form a new hope for us. We can't escape this planet but at least we can enjoy our new lives a bit better and take a break once in a while."

The Engineers are equipped with steam suits that flow temperature controlled water though embedded tubing/thermal padding to keep the user warm in the extremely cold environment.

The pressure and temperature are controlled via the front control unit that uses a physical set of cranks and dials to regulate the suit and displays its stats on its upper guage. Releasing steam out of its vents and connects to the suit via the back outlets.

They are also equipped with a back device that acts as a portable heater, heating up the flowing water. Additionally the pack has a reel out cable that connects to multiple outlets to transport water and energy between sources. It can fold out its legs to act as a local heat source.

Steam powered mechs are used to haul scavenged scrap material to the city forge to be smelted as well as dismantling/crushing, and sorting it out into designated piles. The mechs furnace is located in its chest for easy access to fuel whilst in operation. Utilising its clawed feet to navigate icy surfaces and retracting the spikes for flat surfaces inside.

Blender Blockouts

Field lab which uses a variety of measuring equipment to conduct experiments on the local environment and to further develop the civilizations technologies.

Cafe for the workers to relax and unwind and is the main social hub / building to store foraged and grown food.

An ice fishery that uses a portable drill to drill holes in ice. These holes are then hooked up with pipe systems to suck up fish, sort of like the “Fish Cannon ''. The fish are then stored in the building's integrated fish tank.

Civilian buildings, which are home for the weary and one of the only comforts around in this frozen landscape.

Hauling Snow Ski used to haul and transport scavenged scrap parts and acts as a portable power/water source.
