This short movie is the result of more than one year or hard work and challenges. From the pre-production to the final delivery, we’re taking you with us to discover what is hiding behind the legend of Baovelanh!

                                                SYNOPSIS

As a volcano eruption strikes the island of ĐẢO CHUÔNG, ANYA, a young inhabitant, tries to convince her father NOBU to leave his temple and let go of the legend he believe in for decades: the one of BẢOVỆLẠNH.

                                              CHARACTERS

For the 3 characters, the process of creation was the same. We’re going to see every steps that gave life to our heroes, from drawing to the big screen.

You probably noticed that Anya looks a bit different between the concept and the movie. Thing is, after our first test shot, we noticed that she didn’t translate well to 3D. So we took the hard decision to change her concept, and thus redo the following steps a second time.

                                    ANIMATION DEMOREEL

We've decided to go with a realistic type of animation with punchy timings. Baovelanh was particularly challenging as the training of ESMA was predominantly based on animating humans.  It allowed us to explore a different rig, interacting with the environnement and taking into consideration the FX and VFX that were added afterwards.

                                            ENVIRONMENTS

The movie contains between 4 and 5 sets, which was a bit scary in the first place considering the amount of work we had to put in other areas. It pushed us to be technically creative to rise to this new challenge.

                    LIGHTING & COMPOSITING DEMOREEL

Our teachers introduced us to ACES, which pushed us to learn a new type of workflow for everything involving colours : the textures, renders and compositing.
