The Little Red Riding Hood

This project was a final project for my term 3 in FZD. I decided to explore a new art direction inspired from paper jointed dolls and also paper theatre, which I applied to the character and environment design. Seeing the nature of paper theatre, I decided a side-scrolling game would be a fitting choice for this kind of design.

I started with exploring designs in sketches and thumbnails for each main characters (Red, Wolf, and Grandma), and also the layout of Grandma's house where the most part of the scenario will happen.

Below is the final designs for Red, Wolf, and Grandma. These designs were made with a possibility of these characters will be turned into an actual paper doll if the production of the game is not animated, but by stop motion.

The final designs for the interior and exterior of Grandma's house. Aside from taking inspirations from paper theatre, the interior was also inspired by a doll house design.

Below are the snippets of in-game scenes, complete with the health bar (top left) and also Red's basket as the inventory (bottom left).

As the final step, I made the exterior of Grandma's house including the three main characters into actual mini paper theatre diorama. For the house I used the paper tole technique to create depth of the house itself. In the last photo is the diorama along with the actual playable paper jointed dolls of Red, Wolf, and Grandma.
