-Concept

We created a 3D animation that showcases our artwork with the concept of exhibiting the journey through an art exhibition, where we have produced symbolic sculptures of natural circulation in the space of an art museum.

-Job Progress Description

I wanted to try using Houdini for the first time and found it to be efficient for the parts that I wanted to express. I used Maya and Houdini together for the project. In Maya, I modeled and used Substance Painter to create the space. As I didn't have enough time to study all aspects of Houdini, I focused only on simulation techniques for the parts I wanted to express.

I tried hundreds of simulations in Houdini to produce cache files, which I then matched to the pre-visualized movements I had created in Maya. It was challenging to find simulation cache files that matched the camera movements and natural frames for the pre-vis. So I modified the simulation animation frames little by little to match the camera movements. I used V-Ray D-NOISE to save rendering time in Maya, and for color correction, I used Nuke and After Effects.

-Circlulation

Water represents the essential foundation of human civilization and life, conveying the will of life's birth through its upward movement against gravity.

I worked with fluid using Houdini. I applied upward gravity to the fluid generated from the ground, and adjusted the timing of continuous generation and non-generation of fluid to create a bubble-like effect in the middle.

-Reimagined

I expressed the birth and death of life through the depiction of broken pieces coming together again to form a sculpture of a deer, as a representation of the process of being recreated and reborn.

I used the Houdini RBD Solver to create my work. After creating a deer model and a rebar model, I used the RBD Solver to create a representation where the models collide and break, and then reverse play to recreate the models.

-Infinite

I intended to express the endless cycle of life and nature through the sculpture "Architecture," indicating that we are also living within the circulation of nature and that our human civilization and society, which we have created, are also living within this same cycle.

This animation was created by cutting the modeling with a clip node and adding irregular animation to the transform.
