by Silemar on 3 May 2023 for Rookie Awards 2023

Hello, I'm Silvia Raponi currently a student at Howest - Digital Arts and Entertainment. I'm an aspiring stylized environment artist and this is a collection of works I did over the last 6 months.

Sony FX 300 - Jackal

My second time creating a realistic prop, made for a college exam. I've always been fascinated by old electronics and when I found this old Sony multi-functional portable TV from the 1970s, I knew I had to model it.

I used a mix of Maya and Zbrush to create the low and the highpoly. After baking I textured it in Substance Painter , the most time consuming part was adding all the text details in but it was a very fun process in the end.

Abandoned Bell

For a college assignment with the theme "Ruins", I was inspired by this beautiful concept art https://www.artstation.com/artwork/yJadAn

While I made my own fog cards and dust particle effect for the scene, the rest of the assets were taken from Quixel and the bell from Sketchfab.

Quiet Moment

First time lighting a scene using only GPU lightmass. I got really inspired by all the beautiful pictures of reading corners on pinterest and did my best to evoke that warm cozy feeling.

Went through a lot of different iterations with the assets and their placement, but I am happy with the final result. All the assets were taken from Quixel or from Sketchfab, as I focused on lighting and composition.

Stylized  House-Keeping Truck

This was a personal project I worked on during my free time, I found this beautiful concept https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Ar0xkm and after getting permission from the artist , I started working on it.

I modeled everything in Maya and textured in Substance Painter, making use of gradients and grunge maps and doing very little handpainting.

Something very fun to add where these tiny moving flags on the AC Unit, I achieved their movement using Cloth Paint in Unreal Engine and putting a WindDirectionalSource in the scene.

Stylized Materials

Something I like to study in my free time are stylized materials in Substance Designer.

Here is a collection of some of my favourite ones I've made.

This  one was inspired by a screenshot from Kiki's Delivery Service.

Stylized Shader

Still a work in progress, but I am currently playing around with making different shaders in Unreal Engine and trying to achieve the soft feeling you get from watercolors.

Here's a small showcase of how the scene looks without it and playing around with the parameters.

Thank you for reading my entry!
