Sewing Seeds
"Sewing Seeds" is a still-life piece that I created over 4 weeks, inspired by my grandmother teaching me how to sew as a child. This project marks the end of my second year of study at Media Design School.
My grandma used to be a seamstress back in China, and has made many of my family’s clothes over the years, so I have been around handmade garments and sewing equipment my whole life. She taught me to sew at a fairly young age, and I always wanted the cutest, brightest, equipment and materials I could get, so this concept is a snapshot of my own experience learning to sew as a child.
In this image, I want to showcase the bright and cheerful colours of the sewing equipment, reminiscent of children’s toys, to show the joy and fun of learning something new. Overall, I want this image to represent someone sowing the seeds for a lifelong hobby.
