Bumblebee High Res Fan Art
Here is my fan art of Bumblebee from Bumblebee (2018). Subdividable model with high res textures.
Bumblebee High Res Model
Here is my fan art of Bumblebee from Bumblebee (2018). I used Maya for modeling. Substance Painter for texturing. Rendered in Arnold.References and Details
Finding references for him was a challenge. I ended up primarily using toys as reference as they provided many different angles as opposed to the movie stills.
Comparisons
Subdivided Model vs Unsmoothed Wireframe
Subdivision Modeling
Modeling him was a challenge as this character has many curved parts and panels which need to align to each other. I optimised the topology for the curves while maintaining the hard edges with supporting edge loops where necessary.
UV Layout and Texturing
UV layout was done in Maya, totalling up to around 80 4k UDIMs. The large number of UDIMs helped me to achieve my desired texel density.
Texturing and material work was done in Substance Painter. In order for substance painter to be able to handle the highpoly and udim count I had to split the project into multiple files. After creating my own templates for the various materials it was easy to port the materials over to my multiple files. I used the same HDRI in Substance and Maya, giving me similar lighting in both programs. This greatly assisted me in the lookdev process.
Thank you for viewing my work!
