Ephemeral Pemumbra

Ephemeral Penumbra is an animated short film which I led and directed in 2022. This film was conceived, animated, and composited within 10 weeks as a requirement for my collaborative animation class. 

It follows Arthur, a young boy, as he stays up late at night to watch a horror movie. After watching, he allows his childish imagination to take over, and begins to see creatures surround him. I was behind the conception of this film, as well as the many creative decisions. I also animated scenes in the film. My love for the horror genre led to creating this short.

Ephemeral Penumbra Synopsis

After watching a horror movie, Arthur is visibly shaken up. He turns the television off and makes his way to his room to end his night. At the foot of the stairs, he steels himself and prepares to march up the long, narrow way. As he trudges along on the way to bed, he feels the presence of distant figures watching him. Once he was able to reach his room, his paranoia set in as he began to see faces in the dark of his room. At the peak of his fear, he pulls out his flashlight and scans his room, only to find nothing. With a light wash of relief, he rolls back over to sleep. Arthur begins to drift away into sleep, but his thoughts prevent him from falling into slumber. With a sudden jolt, he checks his surroundings, sees nothing once again.Finally, Arthur’s exhaustion catches up to him and he has no more strength to entertain his thoughts. Just as he lays back down, a monster appears from behind him to strike.
