A day with Gawa

Gawa invited us to her house during my trip to Myanmar, my friends and I were walking around a small village, I saw this woman and we started to chat. She invited us to her house where she taught us a lot about the culture in Myanmar.

This project is my demo reel I created 5 months ago for my mentorship term at Think Tank.

During my trip to Myanmar, my friends and I were walking around a small village, I saw this woman and we started to chat. She invited us to her house where she taught us a lot about the culture in Myanmar. I took a lot of photos that day, but this picture, in particular, was memorable as it showed her daily life as a seamstress.

It was an amazing opportunity to work with my mentor Adam O'Donnell, who helped guide me through this very challenging concept. I really enjoyed taking what was once a travel experience and recreating it into a complex 3D project

Main render frame, reference photo taken by myself.

I really like to try and find interesting cameras angels. I think the fact that I created the whole environment of her house  it helped me to find nice good looking camera angles.

Sculpting & Texturing

I used a female base mesh and modified the primary proportions of the woman's head.
when I got in to a good point I used scan head and wrapped it onto my sculpt. the next steps were to tweak the sculpt and add the details that I'm looking for to match it to the reference.

For texturing the face I used Mari to modify the texture map I got from the Scanface.

For the environment textures I used Substance Painter. Also I used Substance Designer for the cloth texturing as well to get the nice sewing pattern for the cloths.

I used Marvelous Designer for the skirt and the inner fabric she's wearing. For the outer fabric I hand sculpted to get the exact shapes and folds as in the reference.

Lights

I used 4 lights and dome light in Arnold.

with the lights I needed to match the same feeling from the photo that I took.
