Ethan Maguire-Concept Art 2023

MEDICUS TENEBRIS:

Latin for Dark Surgeon, Medicus was brief to design a surgeon character . He is inspired by sci-fi elements mixed with medieval plague doctors and the macabre aesthetic of the fashion house Rick Owens.

I envision him in a short animated film that utilises 3d with 2D painted over elements and a low frame rate to give choppy motion and make the character's movement erratic. The character would have great big dramatic gestures that would take less time to land between as a result of the low frames.

HAAG:

A lone soldier in a nuclear wasteland of half Dutch and  African American descent. Haag is a US military marine who was cryogenically frozen in a concrete compound when the United States came under nuclear attack. He awakes 200 years later and his job is to find life forms and rekindle society.

Electric Slumber:

Electric Slumber was a short story set in a dystopic future where a digital life lived through VR headsets is the norm. In reaction to this, a growing freelance profession arises for people who visit quiet apartment rooms to find those who have slowly died while plugged in and cash their corpses in to the state.

Native Boo:

As a university exercise, we were given common fairy tales paired with randomly generated historical eras and I was tasked with Rip Van Winkle in the old West. I pitched a native character that was inspired by Boo from Monsters Inc who falls into a long slumber and awakes into the colonised USA . However, the project was steered into the more traditional western story.
