In my time at university, I created this character model following a brief of a game-ready character using the theme of resistance and chose to create a British war dog during ww2.

Production sheets of the character model and the assets including the texture maps and the UV unwrapping for presenting topology for the game-ready model. This development breakdown was made to present my knowledge of the 3D art discipline and to be used within my portfolio

Having the diorama and character visually emphasize the World War 2 aesthetic through the use of temperature and contrast of hues for the atmosphere as it was important in conveying the significate of the lighting and illustrates the dark and foreboding atmosphere of the setting which was illustrated through the dulled saturated colour scheme of the environment with using greens and brown as well as a dense fog material to highlight the illumination provided by the lighting. The process of a cool blue temperature key light was illustrated through a moonbeam which cast shadows hitting the reflective surface of the character's helmet projecting sharp shadows for all assets within the engine. The use of a saturated colouration meant that the emissive temperatures found in the scene could be more expressive.

I wanted to enhance this character model by placing it within a game engine this being unreal engine 4 and using real-time lighting techniques for the environment to present my model in more depth. Lighting in real-time provides more natural light shadow casting, variation of emissive temperatures and particle systems in which to practice presenting the lighting within a scene. This can be seen throughout my video reel and environment renders. The use of blue and orange within a dark environment is meant to represent the cold environment and war setting. Whilst looking for a natural source to emit dynamic lighting for the diorama, the inclusion of an oil lantern model served to provide an additional light source for a warmer temperature hue producing an orange emissive for contrast with the key lights' blue-tinted moon source.

The fog was an aesthetic choice included in the diorama as a source of atmospheric ambience bringing focus towards the character model within the scene creating a dense layer of height falloff and distance fade out using the exponential height fog process. Volumetric fog served to add light rays to the scene within the fog environment and exude the use of light sources from key and fill lights to Rim lighting.
