RIG.B - Lost in the Nature
Hi there, i am a recent grad student and i am studying Visual effects BSc. This is a big opportunity for me to demonstrate my skills and thank you Therookies for this opportunity.
Update - 12 Apr 2023
Thank you so much for this opportunity! I wanted to participate earlier, but due to timing issues, I couldn't achieve what i wanted. However, here is my work that I completed in 3 days. I really worked hard on it and made changes to the UV tiling to add more detailing, using at least 40 UDIMs, which is quite massive. It was a challenging journey for me, from finding references to working on the detailing and much more, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you, Therookies, for the opportunity. I am looking forward to hearing feedback from you, and I wish all the best to the other participants.
Update - 11 Apr 2023
Finally Finished Basic Texturing, i am happy with the result. i will do some detailing as well
Update - 11 Apr 2023
I have finished working on the lower body and chest area. The only remaining work is on the shoulders, hands, and weapons. Additionally, I've been experiencing issues with Substance crashing every few hours :)
Update - 10 Apr 2023
Here is the mood board for my environment. As the title suggests, 'Lost in The Nature,' I want to depict a scenario where a robot discovers tiny life forms on Earth, specifically plants, in the middle of a jungle-like environment.
I want to emphasize the detailing of the model as much as possible because I believe that detailed design is crucial in making things look realistic. As such, I've collected some examples to help me capture the fine details accurately.
I'm a bit confused about the texturing for the robot. I've always imagined that if a robot were on Earth, it would either have rust, scratches, and mud on its body or a clean body. However, since the robot is going to be in a jungle environment, I would like to depict it as an old robot that has fought and survived, with dull armor paint, But not too much !
Update - 7 Apr 2023
For the high-level detailing, I decided to change the UV tiling setup, and here is the result. I used Maya's UV tool and RizomUV as well. You can see the difference; it took longer to bake textures in Substance, but it's worth a shot.
Update - 7 Apr 2023
Update: I have decided to add poses to my model for texturing instead of showing my model in T-Pose. So, I used one of the given Maya files that had multiple poses (rigs), and I assigned the one I liked to my model. Then, I exported it as an FBX file to start working on UVs.
Update - 7 Apr 2023
Sorry, my last entry was in January, but due to some personal issues, I have been working full-time until now and not in the VFX industry or any art-related field. Finally, I got a chance to work on it, and I will post my updates as often as I can. I don't want to miss this opportunity. Thank you.
Update - 17 Jan 2023
Hi, this is the first time i am going entre into the rookies competition and i am so excited for this project, finally chance to utilize my skills and demonstrate my abilities.
For this project i am planning to use different tools for particular task, such as Maya, Arnold, Substance painter and RizomUV. Up until now, whenever I worked on individual projects, I always tried to go beyond my capabilities; sometimes I failed and succeeded. But it is always worth a shot to test my abilities.
