The Tiny Companion
3D Robot Design Workflow for the Adobe Substance 3D Competition. So here is Tiny Companion (unless you have a better name). I was inspired by Leia's bot in Obi Wan Kenobi, but also wanted to do something with a digital screen that emotes. I did start the contest quite late, but this is a week's time of work.
Update - 25 Nov 2022
I hand painted the textures in Substance Painter. My references and target were for an old star wars bot being found that still works after all these years. Hence the scratches and rust and changing metal colour. I then imported it into Substance stager to set my scene for the render, using 80s retro studio lighting and some area lights. I also did some simple post-color corrections in Photoshop.
Here are some IRAY renders from Substance Painter-:
Here are the UV Maps-: (Order from left to right; base colour, roughness, metallic, normal, emissive, opacity, height)
Update - 19 Nov 2022
Started the robot challenge 18/11/22 -: Here is my sketch/ concept art for my small droid/robot design.
Got inspired by a bunch of my favorite bot designs in film. I wanted to do something circular, friendly, and small. A companion.
I finished the 3D model in Houdini a few days back, and I'm currently working on the textures in substance painter. Figured I should upload the update so I don't forget.
