Conclusion

Here is the final renders of Robb!

The contest has been challenging and exciting to be a part of. I got to discover a whole lot of new knowledge. While at the same time, I finally got to practice rigging as well. I came upon new and faster ways to unwrap, and finally trying to do a character animation.

The Contest put my skills to a test and forced me to find quicker solutions. I will definitely participate in the next upcoming challenges!

After all the work I am quite happy with result!

I hope you will like it :D

Some Beauty images!

A short character animation that is still rough. I have never had the chance to try out character animation.

What you are seing here is my first ever attempt animating a character. The time I gave myself for this animation, was only a single day because it wasn't my first priority since I had no experience with doing character animation. I considered this as a bonus for my entry.

But here we are... It is absolutely not perfect, but I wanted to include it anyways.

Hope you will enjoy it!

Rigging!

It turned out being very much straight forward to rig Robb. I finally got to add the eyes as well, and give them some emotion. I added vertex groups for the eyes which allows me to form them and save the shapes for animation.

For the rest of this project I will try to spice him up with beauty images. Try to do a little character animation and get a lookdev turntable ready!

A quick viewport screenshot of the rig.

Some poses for the fun of it :)

Texturing!

An interesting part of the process. Substance Painter really allowed me to dive deep in the materials, and get some great results. I went for a worn metallic and plastic look which went pretty good!

Here is the final result of the textures :)

Textures exported to Blender using UDIM's

Some I-Ray preview renders from Substance Painter.

Reference I studied to get the look I was aiming for.

Finishing up modeling and unwrapping

It's been a fun and enjoyable journey so far. Modeling Robb has been quite challenging. I want him to work and function with a rig, and look believable at the same time.

At this point I feel like I finally can match him with my vision!

Next stop...Texturing! :)

(Pssttt... I will add the eyes later...)

I ended up experimenting with some Blender add-ons for unwrapping, which turned out to be huge help!

As you can see, I will be using UDIM's for Robb.

The modeling phase!

Starting off simple... Trying to kind of get the idea of how he is going to be constructed, and work with the rig. I felt pretty confident in the blockout. So I just went in there going for the shapes I wanted and adding small details along the way.

Time for concepting!

Trying to figure out how Robb is going to look and how the rig is going to function. I have never tried to rig before so this is going to be a first timer!

The sketches is very rough and just to get the idea...

Reference for the concept phase :)

If you made it this far...

Thank you for your time! :D
